Braves get first win
The Bottineau-Rugby Braves got their first win on the ice last week in Hazen.
In an 8-0 victory over Hazen-Beulah, the Braves, led by Karsen Ceglowski and Jace Scherr, assaulted the net. Scherr opened things up on an unassisted goal at the 5:02 mark in the first period. Ceglowski would get his first goal on the night nearly seven minutes later, with Alex Hoffert providing an assist.
Scherr got his second goal later in the period, and Ceglowski got his second goal later in the second-after Gabe Clements found the net for a goal of his own.
The Braves would get their last point of the match at the 0:27 mark in the third period on an unassisted goal from Evan Nelson.
The next day, the Braves, who were on the road, were held scoreless against a Dickinson team that was unbeaten in its prior six games. Dickinson’s Jerzy Martin got the first goal for his team, as well as the only goal in the first period at the 2:00 mark.
Both teams were scoreless the entirety of the second period.
Peter Pavek and Mike Herauf then had a goal apiece in the third for a 3-0 victory over the Braves.
On Monday evening in Minot the Braves were able to manage an unassisted goal from Shawn Schaan.
But it wasn’t enough to overcome four goals and two assists from Minot’s Easton Bennett, who helped his squad to a 7-1 victory.
The Braves, who are 1-13 overall at the time of this writing, will be on the road again Monday (Jan. 30) to face Vincent Massey’s varsity squad.
