Rugby triumphs against rival TGU

The Rugby girls basketball team defeated the TGU Titans in a District 11 rivalry match on Tuesday night.

Rugby held the lead for all four quarters of the game, with a final score of 45-23.

Junior Madison Uhlenkamp scored the first five points of the game, giving the Panthers the start they needed.

Sophomore Karsyn Hager added two points to the first quarter, allowing Rugby to get ahead by 7 points.

TGU struggled in the opening period, leaving them behind with a 0-point total going into the second quarter.

The second period saw great shots on both sides, with Rugby scoring 11 points towards their total and TGU securing 6 points.

Rugby sophomore Anni Stier led the second quarter, contributing 6 points to her team’s overall score. TGU senior Angela Anderson countered with 4 points for her team in the second period.

After halftime, both teams came to the court with renewed energy and eagerness to win. Rugby saw shots from Uhlenkamp, Hager and junior Tristin Lunde. TGU was led again by Anderson, with 7 points in the 3rd quarter. Freshman teammate Jaidyn Brummond also scored in the 3rd period.

The final period made it more than clear that Rugby had locked in a win, with fans on TGU’s side leaving the gym early.

Uhlenkamp added 8 points in the final period, and sophomore Maria Blessum contributed the only 3-pointer of the game.

TGU was able to score 8 points in the final round, but it was not enough to compare to Rugby’s 18 points.

Top players for the Rugby Panthers were Uhlenkamp with 17 points, Lunde with 10 points, Stier with 7 points, Blessum with 6 points, and Hager with 5 points.

TGU’s top players were Anderson with 11 points and Brummond with 8 points. Sophomore Allison Cross and freshman Mackenzie Woodall assisted TGU with 2 points each.
