Panther boys, girls win double-header

By Staff | Dec 30, 2016

Last week both the Rugby High School boys and girls’ basketball teams outpaced the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks, with the boys winning 74-48 and the girls 61-28.

Led by junior forward Madison Uhlenkamp, the girls were able to establish a commanding 26-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Panther defense was then able to hold the Mavericks’ scoring to just single digits the remaining three quarters.

On the boys side of things, the score was almost close in the first quarter, however the Panthers, led by senior guard Anders Johnson, came away with the game in the second, garnering a 43-27 lead by halftime. The Panther defense was able to put the Mavericks’ offense on their lowest scoring outputs on the night, with a combined 21 points (nine in the third, 12 in the fourth quarter) in the second half.

The Panther girls took on the no. 5-ranked Our Redeemer’s Christian School Knights Wednesday afternoon at the Our Redeemer’s Invitational at the Minot State University Dome. The Panther boys were in the Dome Thursday, taking on the Beulah Miners* during the 2016 Hoopster Classic.
