District 6 volleyball champions continue winning streak in region tournament
The Rugby volleyball team advanced to the region semifinals after a three-game win against Lewis & Clark-Berthold in the quarterfinal match Monday night at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
Rugby won 25-13, 25-16 and 25-18.
Abby Volk started the match off strong, serving four consecutive aces to secure an early lead against the opponent. The Bombers unsuccessfully tried to procure a lead against the Panthers, but the Rugby team played a tough game and gained enough points to have a 23-13 lead towards the end of the first game.
In the second game of the match, Volk again led the team with a three-ace streak.
In the third and final game, Rugby scored eight points at the beginning of the match, allowing an early lead and motivation to finish the match with as much vigor as the start.
Top players were Maria Blessum with 12 kills, Sara Stier with 6 kills and 7 aces, Madison Uhlenkamp with 5 kills, Anni Stier with 4 kills, Abby Volk with 13 assists and 7 aces, Alissa Volk with 4 assists, Jacque Blessum with 4 blocks and 2 digs, and Christine Vetsch with 8 blocks.
