9-man football roundup
The Towner-Granville-Upham Titans and the North Prairie Cougars have punched their tickets for the postseason, which begins today.
With an undefeated regular season under their belts, the Cougars are top cats in Region 4. After defeating the North Star Bearcats 48-6 last week, the Cougars get a break as they await the winner of a battle of the third seeds in regions 5 and 6 Hettinger-Scranton and Divide County.
The Titans, meanwhile, start the postseason against Tioga the fourth seed from Region 6. The winner of that game will take on the 6-1 New Salem-Glen Ullin Holsteins from Region 5 (Whose only loss was to the lords of Region 3: the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks).
Last week, the Titans shut down the Surrey Mustangs to end the regular season. The Titans had the game from the opening quarter, with senior quarterback Kolter Schell leading the charge on a 16-yard run. Schell would later connect with senior tight end Cole Bethke for 30 yards on the second touchdown of the game. Schell later ran for a 20-yard keeper in the second quarter.
Bethke would be the last to score on a 35-yard run in the first quarter.
Woodchucks chuck Wildcats
The Benson County Wildcats have not had a win this season.
The St. John Woodchucks’ ground game only made it hurt worse.
Last week in St. John, the Wildcats did not have answers for Woodchucks junior quarterback Bryor Parisien, freshman running back Brad Defender and sophomore Casey Azure. In the first quarter alone, Parisien ran for a 40-yard keeper, followed by a 20-yard run from Defender, and a 34-yard run from Azure. Defender ran for 10 yards to put 30 points on the board.
Parisien and Defender would later connect on a short 9-yard pass into the end zone.
Parisien then had the last word on a 28-yard run.
The fourth quarter would be all the Wildcats’, with senior running back Andrew Follman twice finishing drives on two-yard scampers into the end zone.
