With the majority of the regular season in the rear view mirror, the Rugby Cross Country Teams hosted the Rugby Booster Invitational this past Saturday at the golf course in town. It has been a common occurrence this whole fall for both teams to be finishing as a team in the top 3, with the Rugby Booster being no different.

The girls placed third as a team, trailing Jamestown and Hillsboro/Central Valley. Quinn Neppl was the top finisher for Rugby with an 11th place finish (21:16). The top five finishers for the girls finished inside the top 34. “Overall, I was impressed with the girls,” stated Coach Bill Jansen, “this was the best that we have ran at our home meet in awhile.”

On the other side, the Rugby Boys had to settle for a second place finish, trailing only the vaunted New Town Eagles. Dawson Schepp secured the top spot for Rugby with an 8th place finish (17:51). What has been a theme for the fall, the top five runners were all within striking distance of each other as they finished inside the top 17.

After competing in Cooperstown on Thursday, the two teams will set their sights towards the Regional Meet which will be held Next Saturday, the 15th, in Cooperstown. “We are nursing a few injuries right now, few knee problems, but as long as we can stay relatively healthy the Regional meet should go well,’ mentioned Jansen.
