9-man football roundup
Last week there were two lopsided games in area 9-man football.
The Towner-Granville-Upham Titans shut out the Benson County Wildcats 52-0, and the Drake-Anamoose Raiders were only able to score one touchdown against the North Prairie Cougars-who had one defensive touchdown and seven on offense.
In Towner, Titans senior quarterback Kolter Schell struck first on a 9-yard run. He later connected with classmate and wideout Lane Bachmeier on a 22-yard scoring pass.
Sophomore running back Shayden Luna got three scoring runs on the night, two of them in the first half from the one-yard line and the 10-yard line. Luna then put up the Titans’ only score of the third quarter on a 20-yard carry.
The Titans played the Surrey Mustangs at home on Friday, and begin the postseason next week.
In Drake, the Raiders did not have an answer for Cougars senior quarterback/linebacker Brody Cahill in the first half. Cahill scored on two short quarterback keepers in the first quarter, and in the second quarter had a massive 97-yard interception return. He later connected with junior running back Gabe Leonard on a 72-yard scoring pass in response to a Raiders touchdown.
The Raiders got on the board in the second quarter with sophomore quarterback Seth Fahy finding junior tight end Preston Bromley for a short pass.
The Cougars, who remain undefeated at the time of this writing, played the North Star Bearcats on Friday.
