Cross Country teams headed for home stretch

By Staff | Sep 30, 2016

With just a few weeks left during the regular season for the Rugby teams, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of slowing down. This past weekend, competing at two different invites, the Cross Country teams continued their strong performances. In Jamestown last Saturday, both the guys and gals placed in the top five and were the first Class B schools in the standings.

This past Monday in Larimore, the Rugby Girls placed 2nd with a score of 65 and Hatton/Northwood/Thompson was first with a 42. Elle Duchscherer was the top placer for Rugby as she had a time of 21:42. The Rugby Boys came in 1st place with a team score of 25 and Dawson Schepp was the first one across the finish line. Schepp placed 2nd overall in a time of 17:49. It was a solid performance as the top 5 runners for the Rugby Boys all placed in the top 10!

This weekend marks the home invite of the Fall for the Rugby Cross Country teams. Being held out at the golf course, the first race is expected to begin in the latter stages of the morning. “It’s fun and exciting to be home, “stated Head Coach Bill Jansen, “we have a great group of volunteers and workers who make my job easier.” A multitude of teams will be converging on Rugby, including the vaunted New Town boys.

Just one more race during the regular season is left for Rugby after this weekend. Thursday, October 6th the teams will travel to Cooperstown and then return on Saturday the 15th for Regionals. The State meet is in Jamestown on Saturday, October 22nd. Good luck to the runners over the next few weeks.
