9-man football roundup

By Staff | Sep 9, 2016

Two games last week were decided by big plays in the first half: The Towner-Granville-Upham Titans vs. the Drake-Anamoose Raiders, and the North Prairie (Rolette-Wolford-Rolla) Cougars vs. the Benson County Wildcats.

The Titans were in the game from the get-go, starting with Shayden Luna on a 50-yard touchdown run. Kolter Schell then connected with Lane Bachmeier on a 32-yard pass to help put the Titans 16-0 over the Raiders at the end of the first quarter.

The Raiders were unable to respond until the second half, with a 19-yard touchdown run from Tommy Gonzalez. In the fourth quarter, Raiders quarterback Seth Fahy connected with Brett Filler on a 15-yard pass, and then kept it for a two-point conversion.

The Titans traveled to Thompson on Friday, and will face the Cougars in Towner on Sept. 16.

Meanwhile, in Cougar territory, the Cougars scored after a two-minute, five play drive that ended with a 27-yard quarterback keeper on Brody Cahill.

After a four-first down Wildcats possession with no payoff, Cahill then struck again on a 62-yard sweep. He would later connect twice with Jared Loing, once on a 23-yard pass and another time on a 20-yard pass.

The Cougar defense later forced a fumble, one that Garrett Munro took advantage of.

The Cougars traveled to Surrey Friday for their first road game and will continue to be on the road Sept. 16, traveling to Towner.
