Cross Country teams start season strong
Traveling to Jamestown last Saturday to participate at the Jamestown “Orr”iginals Invitational, the Rugby Cross Country teams had a great showing for their first meet of the season. Both teams competed at the Junior Varsity level, given the size of the meet and also both teams ran 4000 meters.
The girls placed second overall as a team, scoring 116 as Fargo Davies was the top team with a score of 29. The top runner for Rugby was Tristin Lunde (15th) with a time of 17:26. Rounding out the top five runners were Taylor Nelson (20th, 18:01), Quinn Neppl (24th, 18:14), Karsyn Hager (28th, 18:26) and Andrea Arnold (29th, 18:26). There were 42 girls teams competing with 235 runners in Jamestown last Saturday.
The boys had a solid start to the season, snagging the top spot as a team and had their top five runners all finish inside the top 20 on the day. Rugby had 42 points as a team with Fargo North coming in second at 78 team points. Dawson Schepp took home medalist honors, claiming the top spot with a time of 14:06. The other four finishers in the top 20 overall included Kadin Neppl (3rd, 14:35), Brett O’Connell (5th, 14:44), Riley Zachmeier (15th, 15:25) and Warren Walker (18th, 15:33). 189 runners made up the 35 teams for the boys overall.
After competing at the Northwood Invitational this past Thursday, the Cross Country teams will have two meets this upcoming week. Tuesday, they will be in Carrington and then on Friday they will be at the Dunseith Invitational.
