Babe Ruth enjoys doubleheader sweep

Isaiah Johnson slides into home against Dunseith.

The local Babe Ruth team moved their record to 6-2 on the summer season with a doubleheader sweep of Dunseith this past Monday via scores of 14-7 and 10-1. One of the games was a makeup from a postponed game earlier this summer. In game one, Rugby used a five run third and five run fourth to distance themselves from Dunseith in the 14-7 victory. Tim Mueller started the game on the mound and went 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits, walked nine and struck out one. “Tim pitched well for being on the hill for the first time this summer,” stated Head Coach Kipp Johnson, “he just ran out of gas, but put us in a situation to win.” Offensively Mason McCabe went 3/4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Kyler Gingerich drove in three, scored a run and was 2/4 at the plate.

McCabe came on in relief of Mueller in game one, and used that to his benefit in game two. He pitched all five innings in the second game and limited Dunseith to just four hits did not walk a batter and struck out six. The usual suspects contributed once again on offense as Gingerich was 2/3 with two runs plus two batted in and McCabe was 2/3 with three runs scored and an RBI in the 10-1 victory. “Overall, we saw great production from everyone that played,” said Johnson, “from the older guys to the younger ones it was awesome to see.”

Rugby wrapped up the regular season with games against Cando and Belcourt at the end of this week and will participate in the upcoming Turtle Mountain League Tournament this coming week in Cando, starting on Tuesday July 5th. Games can be heard on AM1450.
