Boys’ golf competes at Vardon

By Staff | May 20, 2016

For the first time in a long time this season, the Rugby boys’ golf competed in a meet without regional foe Northern Lights looming. And on a new course.

But on Monday at Vardon Golf Course in Minot, the team, led by Kevin Vetsch (94) and Levi Pollman (97), finished in seventh place, behind Tate Wyman and Westhope-Newburg. Des Lacs-Burlington, led by Riley Keller, took first place on the meet.

Rounding out the day for Rugby were Brett Berginski (104) and Thor Skjelver (119).

Four days prior, Ben Hershey (87) and Pollman (89) led a third place-finishing Rugby team at an individual qualifier in Garrison. Brock Haakenson (91), Alex Hoffert (97), Kyle Lashman (98) and Jacob Christianson (99) rounded out the day for Rugby.

Northern Lights was tops in Garrison, with Dalton Poitra shooting his way to a state qualifying spot.

On Friday the boys had one last shot as a team at qualifying for the state meet, which will be held Tuesday, May 31, in Jamestown.
