Tracksters excel at Peace Garden Conference

Rugby High School’s boys’ and girls’ track teams came away from St. John last Thursday with first place-finishing teams and individuals.

The girls ran away with the meet with a combined score of 253 and first place finishes in several events, including in the 100-meter dash (Kristina Brossart, 13.01); 200-meter dash (Brossart, 28.06); 400-meter dash (Anni Stier, 1:01.88); 800-meter run (Tristin Lunde, 2:35.87); 300-meter hurdles (Stier, 48.90); 4×100 relay (Brossart, Lauren Kraft, Maria Blessum, Stier); 4×200 relay (Anni Stier, Sara Stier, Kraft, Brossart); 4×800 relay (Karsyn Hager, Taylor Nelson, Dessa Denich, Ellie Duchscherer); long jump (Sara Stier, 15 feet, 7 1/2 inches); triple jump (Kraft, 15 feet, 7 inches); pole vault (Blessum, 8 feet, 6 inches) and shot put (Maddie Uhlenkamp, 33 feet, 1 inch). Rugby also had a first place finisher and state qualifier in discus with Uhlenkamp (115 feet).

The boys were dominant with first place finishes in the 200 dash (Cade Heilman, 23.52); 110-meter hurdles (Ryan Michels, 17.68); 300 hurdles (Victor Gronvold, 43.90); 4×100 relay (Dustin Herold, Kade Leier, Kaden Jaeger, Heilman); 4×200 relay; 4×400 relay (Leier, Michels, Gronvold, Heilman); high jump (Michels, 6 feet, 2 inches); and pole vault (Gronvold, 13 feet). The team’s combined score was 201.

Both teams competed in Rugby on Thursday. They are competing today at a Wells County meet that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
