Boys Golf: No qualifiers, yet

By Staff | May 13, 2016

At the individual qualifier meet on Monday, someone had to shoot a 79 or better in 18 holes of golf to qualify for state.

That wasn’t the case. The top two best golfers at the meet, Dalton Poitra of Northern Lights and Matt Hendrickson of Our Redeemer’s Christian School, both managed an 83.

Rugby was able to get on the board, with Brock Haakenson in a three-way tie for third place with 91. Ben Hershey was the next closest for Rugby with 92. Levi Pollman, who usually leads the Rugby team in scoring, did not have a good day on the green, shooting a 100.

As a team, Rugby took third with 384 total points.

Pollman did better last Thursday at the Northern Lights Invitational in Rolla, shooting 90.

Northern Lights not only took first on that meet (328), but also held the top four individual spots, with Poitra (79) taking first and Reid Mickelson (85) taking fourth. Bishop Ryan’s Jaxon Lundeen rounded out the top five spots.

Rugby took third that meet as well, with a combined score of 394.

The boys competed at a second individual qualifier meet in Garrison on Thursday, and will compete at Vardon Golf Course in Minot on Monday.
