Rugby High School’s boys’ and girls’ track teams took first in two meets within days of each other.

And both times at home, no less.

Last week at the Panther Booster Invitational, the boys had their strongest showings in the 3200-meter run (Dawson Schepp, 10:49.79); 300-meter hurdles (Keith Vetsch, 47.24); 4×400-meter relay (Kade Leier, Cade Heilman, Ryan Michels and Tyler Schmaltz, 3:44.18); high jump (Michels, 6 feet); pole vault (Victor Gronvold, 12 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (Michels, 21 feet 1 inch). Both Michels and Gronvold qualified for state in long jump and pole vault, respectively.

The girls had their strongest showings in the 800-meter run (Tristin Lunde, 2:32.43); 4×100-meter relay (Kristina Brossart, Anni Stier, Sara Stier and Lauren Kraft, 54.81); long jump (Sara Stier, 16 feet, 1 1/4 inches); and discus (Maddie Uhlenkamp, 105 feet, 10 inches). Sara Stier and Lauren Kraft took the top two as well as state-qualifying spots in triple jump (Stier, 34 feet, 6 1/2 inches; Kraft 34 feet).

On Tuesday afternoon, the boys’ strongest events were 300-meter hurdles (Ethan Clements, 44.75); 4×200-meter relay (Kade Leier, Heilman, Michels, Kaden Jaeger, 1:36.39); pole vault (Victor Gronvold, 12 feet, 6 inches, state qualifying); and long jump (Michels, 20 feet, 8 inches).

The girls’ strongest showings were in the 400-meter dash (Anni Stier, 1:03.04); 300 hurdles (Anni Stier, 49.24); 4×100 relay (Brianna Leier, Kristina Brossart, Sara Stier, Kraft, 54.49); pole vault (Maria Blessum, 8 feet); long jump (Sara Stier, 16 feet, 4 inches); triple jump (Sara Stier, 36 feet, 1/4 inches, state qualified); and discus (Maddie Uhlenkamp, 107 feet, 4 inches).

Both teams competed Thursday in St. John and are competing today in Carrington. The next action after that are meets in Wells County (Tuesday, May 10 and Saturday, May 14) and Rugby (Thursday, May 12).
