Girls Track Nabs State Qualifier
The Rugby High School girls’ track team had a state qualifier of the outdoor season Tuesday at the Clark & Sharon Lloyd Memorial meet in Fessenden.
Sara Stier took both first place and state-qualifying spots in long jump (16 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (34 feet, 3 inches). Stier also came home with a 4th-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay (Brianna Leier, Stier, Lauren Kraft, Kristina Brossart – 55.12), and a 6th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.
Her sister, Anni, was part to the 1st-place finishing 4×200-meter relay team (Kraft, Brossart, A. Stier, Tristin Lunde – 1:55.62). She also finished 2nd in the 300-meter hurdles (50.03), and 3rd in both the 200-meter (28.46) and 400-meter dash events (1:03.24).
Brossart took first in the 100-meter dash (13.38) and 5th in the 200 dash (29.32).
Ellie Duchscherer took 4th place in the 3200-meter run (13:32.14). She, along with Lunde, Karsyn Hager and Taylor Nelson, also took first in the 4×800-meter relay (10:47.35).
In pole vault, Karsyn Hager was in a 3-way tie for 2nd place, netting a height of 6 feet, 6 inches.
Madison Uhlenkamp had a good day on the field, taking second in both discus (106′ 10″) and javelin (99′ 7″), and third in shot put (32′ 1″).
The boys had strong showings in the relay events.
The boys took third in the 4×100 (Dustin Herold, Kade Leier, Kaden Jaeger, Ryan Michels – 46.0) and 4×800 relays (Jacob Blessum, John Mueller, Dawson Schepp, Tyler Schmaltz – 9:23.83), and second in the 4×200 (Leier, Jaeger, Michels, Cade Heilman – 1:37.41) and 4×400 relays (Leier, Heilman, Schmaltz, Nathan Livedalen – 3:46.23).
Michels had strong showings in high jump (2nd – 5′ 10″) and the 200 dash (3rd – 24.28).
Both teams competed Friday at a meet in Washburn. The next action for both teams will be Tuesday, April 26, in Velva.
