Track Teams Dominate at CNDC

The Rugby High School boys’ and girls’ track & field teams were top dogs at the CNDC Indoor Meet Tuesday in Minot.

The girls’ team collectively took first with a score of 140, and had its share of first-place finishes: Anni Stier in the 400-meter dash, Tristin Lunde in the 800-meter run; and the 4×160 (Stier, Lunde, Kristina Brossart and Lauren Kraft), 4×400 (Lunde, Brossart, Stier and Ellie Duchscherer) and 4×800-meter (Duchscherer, Lunde, Taylor Nelson and Karsyn Hager) relay teams. Sara Stier had a pair of first-place finishes in the long jump (16’3″) and triple jump (33’6″)

Rugby also had top-5 showings with Brossart taking third in the 55-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash; Maddie Uhlenkamp taking third and Matty Koenig fourth by a foot between them in shot put; Kraft taking third in long jump and second in triple jump; and Maria Blessum, Jazlyn Brossart and Hager taking second, third and fourth, respectively, in pole vault.

On the boys’ side, Rugby had its strongest showing in the 4×160 (Kaden Jaeger, Ryan Michels, Lane Schmitt and Dustin Herold), 4×400 (Kevin Vetsch, Cade Heilman, Ethan Clements and Tyler Schmaltz) and 4×800-meter (Jacob Blessum, Schmaltz, Dawson Schepp and John Mueller) relays, as well as the 3200-meter run, with first-place finishes in all. Schmitt also took second in long jump and 55-meter hurdles, and third in triple jump. Michels took second in high jump. Jager took third in pole vault and second in the 200-meter dash. Clements took fourth in both pole vault and hurdles. Blessum rounded out the top-five in the 800-meter for the boys.

Three days prior, the boys’ and girls’ teams shook off the cobwebs at the State Class B Indoor Meet in Fargo.

The girls’ took third place as a team, with top five finishes in the 60-meter dash (Kristina Brossart – 8.44 seconds, 4th place); 400-meter dash (Anni Stier – 1:03.55, 2nd place); long jump (Sara Stier – 15′ 10 3/4″, 3rd place); triple jump (Sara Stier – 33′ 9 1/2″, 2nd place); pole vault (Maria Blessum – 8’6″, 3rd place); and the 4×400-meter relay (Kristina Brossart, Emily Salwey, Duchscherer, Hager – 11:42.36, 4th place).

The boys took 13th as a team, with Victor Gronvold, Kaden Jaeger and Ethan Clements placing on pole vault (fifth and seventh, respectively) and Dawson Schepp placing during the 3200-meter run (11:09.40, 7th place).

The track teams’ next meet will be Tuesday, April 19 at Wells County
