Wrestlers Compete at Regionals

Rugby Panther wrestlers got through their first round of regional bouts last week, facing Des Lacs-Burlington, Stanley and MonDak Thunder.

Wrestling at 113 against MonDak Thunder, Riley Zachmeier felled Raymond Boelter. Then at 106, Zachmeier defeated Cody Rudolph (Stanley) by a 6-0 decision.

Wyatt Schmaltz defeated Grayson Pease (Des Lacs-Burlington) by fall at the 2:38 mark and Dawson Sessing (Stanley) by fall at the 1:56 mark. Schmaltz then lost to Rudolph by fall.

At 126, Joey Berg defeated Walter Winkler (Des Lacs-Burlington) by 7-5 decision, Ethan Myers (MonDak Thunder) by fall and Trevor Harstad (Stanley) by major decision.

At 138, Dylan Grove defeated Nathan Ferm (Des Lacs-Burlington) by major decision.

Wrestling at 152, Kaden Jaeger lost to Stanley’s Bradley Ladwig by fall.

At 182, DJ Schneibel twice felled Stanley’s Dalton Brown. At 195, Schneibel also felled MonDak Thunder’s Cole Berg.

At 285, Spencer Koehmstedt defeated MonDak Thunder’s Jonathan Taylor by fall, and at 220 he defeated Stanley’s Jack Wilhelmi by fall. He lost to Austin Moen (Des Lacs-Burlington) and Garrett Hoelscher (Stanley).

Also wrestling for Rugby were Jadyn Mack (106), Brady Volk (120/126#), Cole Schneibel (160/170#), Collin Kraft (152/160#) and Landon Rost (220#).

Panther wrestlers are competing today in Velva for shots at the state tournament, which will be held next week in Fargo.
