Braves Begin Three Weekend Road Trip With Losses to Jamestown & Mandan
The Bottineau/Rugby Braves Hockey team dropped a pair of West Region hockey games this past weekend, at Jamestown 7-0 on Friday and 9-1 at Mandan on Saturday evening. Senior Ethan Clements turned aside 39 shots against the Blue Jays of Jamestown, but got little help from the offense as the Braves were shut out for the third time this season.
Looking for a rebound game against the Mandan Braves, who had not played the night before, things went south fast for Bottineau/Rugby. Mandan scored 2 goals six seconds apart a minute into the contest and did not like back in the route. Clements and sophomore Micah Hershey split time in the net versus Mandan.
The lone goal for Bottineau/Rugby was scored via the power play in the second period as junior Defenseman Ty Spence found the net, his first goal of the season. He was assisted by senior David Arstein and junior Karsen Ceglowski.
“Changes won’t come over night,” stated Coach David Hoff, “but we are starting to see new kids both at the JV level and Varsity level score goals, it will be important to continue to improve and build confidence on both ends of the rink.”
The weekend warriors continue their road trip this weekend, Friday in Williston and Saturday at the State Capital taking on Bismarck High.
