#2 Panthers Use Teamwork To Fly Past Lady Raiders
The 2nd Ranked Rugby Panthers Girls basketball team had 6 girls score 8 points or more in a road route of Drake/Anamoose, 71-19, on Tuesday night in Drake.
Balanced scoring has been a theme this year for the Panthers and Tuesday was no different, aided by having fresh legs from their bench due to only C-Squad and Varsity games at Drake. Rugby received 25 points from their bench players. “We have talked about getting four girls consistently in double digits, but we will take the scoring tonight and need to make sure that we stay healthy,” added Head Coach Jen Brossart, as the Panthers improved to 3-0 in District 11 play and 11-0 on the season.
Senior Shea Heidlebaugh paced the Panthers with 14 points, and junior Breanna Thompson shrugged off a slow start to finish with 13 points. Rugby led 38-14 at the break, but outscored Drake/Anamoose 20-2 in the third quarter to shut the door on the night.
“I thought the second half we came out better, more poised,” mentioned Brossart, “also getting in their face defensively, even in half court defense was a huge difference.”
The Panthers will welcome in Sawyer (11-1) to the Charles Hanneman Gymnasium for a Thursday night show down. District 11 is shaping up to be one of the more competitive districts in North Dakota Class B Girls Basketball.
