Wrestlers Compete at Stanley Triangular

The Rugby High School Wrestling team competed Tuesday against Stanley and Velva in a triangular.

At 106, Nathanial Johnson lost to Velva’s Lizzy Massine and Stanley’s Cody Rudolph by fall.

Normally competing at 106, Riley Zachmeier wrestled at a higher weight class, 113, and was able to defeat a ranked opponent. He beat Velva’s Jonas Krueger by fall and Stanley’s Kaydin Meiers by a 5-2 decision.

Joey Berg defeated no. 7-ranked Aaron Dean (Velva) by 7-5 decision, and Stanley’s Trent Anderson by fall. Berg wrestled at 126 when facing dean, and 132 when facing Anderson.

Kaden Jaeger defeated Stanley’s Dyllon Craft by fall, but lost to Velva’s Elijah Hackman. Jaeger was the second Rugby wrestler to compete in two different weight classes on the evening, competing in the 145-pound class against Craft and at 138 pounds against Hackman.

Dylan Grove was the third to wrestle in two different weight classes, although his match at 138 was forfeited. At 145, he lost to Velva’s Austin Schreiner by fall.

At 160, Cole Schneibel fell to his opponents. DJ Schneibel faired better at 182, beating Velva’s Graydon Olson by fall. He lost to Stanley’s Colton Rudolph by fall.

At 285, Spencer Koehmstedt avenged a pin earlier in the season by beating Velva’s Nick Hodges by 2-1 decision, He lost to Stanley’s Garrett Hoelscher by 7-0 decision.

Rugby was without Collin Kraft due to illness, and was waiting for first-year wrestler Landon Rost to be ready to compete.

Rugby wrestlers are competing today at a tournament at Central Cass, who is coached by RHS alumnus Travis Lemar. Rugby will compete this upcoming Tuesday at a triangular between New Town and Harvey, starting at 5 p.m. on their home turf. On Friday, Jan. 15, starting at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m., they will compete in a tournament in Rugby. On Friday, Jan. 22, at 5 p.m., they will compete in a quadrangular tournament in Rugby against Des-Lacs Burlington, Kenmare and Mondak Thunder.
