Braves Snap Losing Streak
The Bottineau-Rugby Braves chalked up a win last week after losing two matches on their home ice the week before.
The Braves beat Boissevain, MB, Canada, 5-3, in a non-conference game, making their record 1-3 overall, 0-2 at home and 1-1 on the road before their next games.
The Braves lost to Dickinson on Dec. 5 in a brutal 12-2 outing at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby. Austyn Lorenz managed to net the Braves’ only goals, both in the second period. Goalie Ethan Clements managed 27 saves. But it wasn’t enough, as Dickinson’s Michael McChesney, Dawson Kram and Jerzy Martin each pulled off hat tricks – three goals in a single game.
The day before, the Braves lost 8-2 against Jamestown in Bottineau during a Western Dakota Association opener for both teams. Lorenz put in Bottineau-Rugby’s two goals; the first off a Ty Spence assist in the first period and the second came in the third period. Clements managed 23 saves, and Micah Hershey managed 13 at the net for the Braves. For Jamestown, Zach Hanson had 10 saves and Matthew Schneider had 11.
Jamestown senior Austin Rene led in scoring on the night with a hat trick.
The Braves played Hazen-Beulah Friday, and will travel to Williston today at 3:15 p.m.
