Dickinson High Head Football Coach John Tuchscherer, an alumnus of Rugby High School, and the son of Jim and Jody Tuchscherer who still live in Rugby was named the Class 3A West Region coach of the year for 2015. Tuchscherer was able to guide the Midgets to seven victories this year. This was the first time the Midgets hit the seven win mark since the 2001 season.

Tuchscherer led Dickinson High to a 7-3 record and into the Class 3A playoffs, where it lost 32-20 to West Fargo Sheyenne in the first round.

When asked what he felt the most important part of being a coach was Tuchscherer said, “I think being a good leader. The players want someone they know they can trust on and off the field. They want someone they know is going to have their backs. I was fortunate enough to have two really good football coaches growing up. Coach Grochow and Coach Beisiot are both great coaches and taught me a lot about football and coaching. A lot of the things they taught me I still use with our football team.”

About being recognized as Coach of the Year, Coach Tuchscherer shared, ” Most importantly, it means that I’m surrounded by a great group of guys on our coaching staff that deserve a lot of recognition. It is a great honor, but I’m not in coaching for the awards. I enjoy watching our guys improve week to week and I enjoy watching them compete on Friday nights.”

Coach Tuchscherer graduated from Rugby High School in 2005 and took over the reigns at Dickinson Midgets in 2013 after serving two years as an assistant coach for the Midgets.
