The 2015 cross country season saw an increase of 3 in the total number of participants, with both the boys and girls fielding full teams. Thirty athletes in grades 7-12 participated. The breakdown was 15 girls (a decrease of one from 2014) and 15 boys (an increase of four from 2014). There was one senior boy (Jaydin Risovi). This was the first year of our co-op with Benson County, which had 4 boys from Maddock that participated.

The teams participated in 13 meets. The varsity girls won 2 meets and finished in the top five as a team 10 times. The girls were 3rd place at Region and 11th place at State. The varsity boys won 8 meets and finished in the top five as a team 12 times. The boys were Region Champions for the 5th time and State Runner-Up for the 3rd time. This is the 10th time the boys have finished in the top five at state. This was the 11th year in a row that we have had a top 5-team finisher on either the girls or boys side. The girls and boys teams received the Team Scholar Award given by the North Dakota High School Activities Association.

The girls placed three runners on the All-Region team (Tristin Lunde – 14th – third year, Ellie Duchscherer – 15th – first year, Kristina Brossart – 16th – first year) and no All-State runners. The boys had five All-Region runners (Jaydin Risovi – 2nd – first year, Dawson Schepp – 10th – first year, Kadin Neppl – 13th – first year, John Mueller – 14th – first year, and Gabe Clements – 17th – first year) and one All-State runner (Risovi – 10th – first year). This was the 11th year in a row that we have had an All-State runner on either the girls or boys team.

An elementary race was held at the 21st Annual Rugby Booster Club Invitational for the 16th year. Forty-four girls and 47 boys from the Rugby co-op participated in the elementary race of 1600 meters, which was open to all the schools that attended the meet. A total of 114 girls and 115 boys ran in the races. Quinn Neppl, from Maddock, was the top co-op elementary girl, finishing in second place. Sara Schmaltz was the top Rugby, girl finishing in 17th place. Anna Duchscherer was the top Towner girl, finishing in 59th place. Rylan Tofte from Rugby was the top co-op elementary boy finishing in first place for the second year. Paxton Neppl was the top Maddock boy, finishing in 12th place. Coach Bartsch and Coach Kuntz held elementary practices for the Rugby runners for about a month before our home meet.
