Cross Country Races on Home Turf

On a crisp fall day the Rugby High School boys and girls Cross Country teams took second (110) and sixth (186), respectively at the Rugby Booster Invitational last week held at the Rugby Golf Club. It was an incredible turnout, with over 26 high schools participating from around the state. The Rugby Booster Club rose to the occasion and handled the needs of the overflowing crowd with ease.

The boys had two runners place in the top 20 out of 108 runners. Jaydin Risovi took seventh place, finishing a 5,000-meter race in 17:28 minutes; and Dawson Schepp took 16th, finishing in 18:25 minutes. The New Town team took first as a whole (15), with Jalen Chase taking first individually with a 16:03 time.

Tristin Lunde was the sole runner in the top 20 for the girls, finishing with a 16:50 time. Hillsboro/Central Valley (49), Killdeer (122), New Town (152), Carrington (171) and Stanley (172) were dominant forces at the meet, and Gracie Wright, of Hillsboro, took first individually with a 15:10 time.

Jr. High Teams Take First

The home meet had two bright spots in the junior high boys and girls teams, who both took first. The girls had three four runners in the top 10 out of 26 runners, and the boys had three runners in the top 10 out of 40.

The girls saw Anna Clements take fourth (13:36), Jenna Wangler take seventh (14:05) and Ariana Hoffart take eighth (14:08). As a team they had a 23-point edge over second place Turtle Mountain Community and a 56-point edge third place Griggs County Central.

For the boys, Jacob Arnold took second. He was just two seconds behind first place-winner Brady Bratvold, of New Town, who finished with an 11:26 time. Warren Walker took fourth (11:49), and Tim Mueller took eighth (12:14). As a team, the boys had a 21-point edge over second place Four Winds-Minnewaukan, and New Town took third with 118 points.

The teams competed Thursday at a meet in Cooperstown, where next week’s regional meet will also take place at 11 a.m. The state meet will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Grand Forks.

Future Panthers Excel

Shout out also to our baby Panthers, who ranged from Kindergarten to 6th grade. For the boys, with 115 runners participating, Rylan Tofte took first place overall, followed by Logan Harner, 3rd place; Erik Foster, 11th place; Hudson Hager, 17th place and Ethan Musser, 18th place. The other Rugby runners for the boys who finished the race are: Colin Adam, Tucker Volk, Ridley Odden, JJ Wood, Micah Musser, Brysen McKoy, Jacob Ripplinger, Ryan Schmaltz, Alaric Skjelver, Isaac Christenson, Bailey Zachmeier, Kristian Fritz, Jackson Brossart, Kolton Bohl, Jaden Wald, Zach Selensky, Dylan Bartsch, Tayler Lunde, Brady Filler, JaviAre Danley, Maddex Kirchofner, Cody Ebach, Bryce Jacobs, Harper Senechal, Nathan Thiel, Hudson Grove, Bryce Zietz, Lucas Moses, Landen Zietz, Isaac Sattler, Colton Ressler, Kallen Azure, Isaiah Chase, Alec Bohl, Liam Wurgler, and Sawyer Brossart.

On the girls’ side for runners ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade that totaled 114, Sarah Schmaltz finished in 17th place and Amelia Shepard in 20th. The other girl runners for Rugby who completed the race were: Ella Jacobson, Brooklyn Corum, Hannah Senechal, Brooklyn Bartsch, Madison Corum, Ava Jacobson, Paisley Wangler, Jaelyn Lunde, Tressa Arnston, Leah Shepard, Jozie Tofte, Mya, McNeff, Sabrina Shepard, Trista Hamilton, Ava Wurgler, hannah Musser, Danica Gross, Reese Gullickson, Mattisyn Jacobson, Kaia Thiel, Micah Bohl, Tayler Hamilton, Marisa Bohl, Sadie Branham, Avarie Jacobson, Abby Hager, Tammie Palmer, Haylee Randall, Siana Schwab, Bria Brossart, Jenna Halverson, Avery Santjer, Opal Hackel, and Bea Remollo.

Boys Crack State’s Coaches Poll

After an impressive showing in last week’s meet, the Rugby Boys Cross Country Team now ranks Number 2 in the state, as determined by the North Dakota High School Coaches Cross Country Poll. Risovi is now ranked number 9 in the state, as determined by the same poll.
