Cross Country: Boys Win Big at Fort Totten and in Larimore
The Rugby High School Boys’ Cross Country team won two big meets this last week one at Fort Totten on Saturday and then again in Larimore on Monday. The Girls took first place at Fort Totten.
In Larimore as a team, the boys scored a combined 45 for a first place finish, with the next closest team being FourWinds/Minnewaukan (104).
Four Rugby runners were able to secure top 10 spots: Jaydin Risovi (second, 17:45), John Mueller (eighth, 18:46), Dawson Schepp (ninth, 18:48) and Kadin Neppl (18:58).
The girls were, as a team, just one point away from first place (Hatton-Northwood-Thompson, 73). They were led by Tristin Lunde, Ellie Duchscherer and Kristina Brossart, who took 10th (16:42), 11th (16:53) and 12th (16:54), respectively.
At Fort Totten both teams secured first place finishes at the Four Winds Invitational. They did so under less than ideal conditions with the wind howling the entire meet.
The girls had three runners take top 10 spots: Duchscher (fifth, 18:14), Brossart (seventh, 18:42) and Taylor Nelson (ninth, 18:46). The boys had four runners: Neppl (third, 19:20), Mueller (sixth, 19:42), Schepp (seventh, 19:46) and Gabe Clements (eighth, 19:59).
The girls’ team score was 47, four points ahead of second place Surrey. The boys scored 35, pulling ahead of Four Winds (49).
Both teams are competing today at a meet on their home soil. Their next action will be Thursday, Oct. 8, in Cooperstown.
