Cross Country: Rugby Teams Take Fifth
The Rugby High School boys’ and girls’ Cross Country teams both took fifth place last week a meet in Valley City.
RHS Cross Country Coach Bill Jansen said the meet was a positive one.
“We ran well last week, and I’m encouraged by the progress we are making,” Jansen said.
With a combined team score of 192, Tristin Lunde and Ellie Duchscher led the way for the Rugby girls, taking 20th place (16:39) and 33rd place (17:33), respectively.
Jaydin Risovi was the lone Rugby runner in the top 10 for the boys, finishing in 17:20 for seventh place. The next closest Rugby runner was Dawson Schepp, who took 28th place with an 18:47 time. The boys had a combined score of 204.
Rugby has four meets left before regionals: Four Winds today at 10:30 a.m.; Larimore on Monday at 4 p.m.; a meet in Rugby Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m.; and Cooperstown Thursday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. Regionals will take place Saturday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. in Cooperstown.
Jansen said that out of the four remaining meets, he expects the home meet will be the biggest.
“At our meet we should see some teams from the west,” Jansen said. “All the kids are working hard to get better, with the goal of running their best at the end of the season.”
