Cross Country: Boys Rank 5th in State

By Staff | Sep 18, 2015

The Rugby High School Girls’ Cross Country team took first last week at a pre-state invitational meet in Grand Forks.

Rugby had two runners in the top 10 for the girls, Tristin Lunde (fourth, 17:01) and Ellie Duchscher (ninth, 17:21).

The boys, who took sixth, had one runner in the top 10, with Dawson Schepp taking eighth place (18:46).

“The girls had a nice race, and we are starting to find runners to fill our 4-6 spots on the team,” said Cross Country Coach Bill Jansen. “The boys were shorthanded, missing three of our top five runners, but we still got an idea of what other teams in the state have and where we stack up.”

Two days prior, both teams competed at a meet in Grafton.

The girls took third place as a team, with Lunde taking fourth individually (16:36).

The boys took first as a team. Individually, three Rugby boys took spots in the top 10: Jaydin Risovi (second, 17:34), John Mueller (fourth, 18:37) and Gabe Clements (fifth, 18:37).

Both teams competed today at a meet in Valley City, and next week are scheduled to compete at a meet at Four Winds High School. After that, they will compete Monday, Sept. 28 in Larimore, and on Oct. 3 will have a meet on their home turf.

As of Sept. 9, the boys are ranked fifth, as a team, in Class B according to the N.D. High School Coaches Cross Country poll. New Town is currently ranked number one, Beulah/Hazen number two, Bowman County is third, and Lisbon is ranked fourth. For Class B girls, Southern McLean is in first, Hillsboro/Central Valley second, Killdeer third, Bowman County fourth and Shiloh Christian fifth.
