Cross Country: Boys Take First, Girls Take Second

Senior Jaydin Risovi and several Rugby runners managed to secure top 10 spots for a first place team finish at a meet in Dunseith last week.

Risovi took first out of 31 runners in varsity boys, finishing in 18:08 minutes. Rounding out the top ten for Rugby were Dawson Schepp (fifth: 19:38), John Mueller (sixth: 20:03), Kadin Neppl (eighth: 20:16) and Dillion Fly (tenth: 20:33).

As a team, Rugby boys pulled ahead of Four Winds/Minnewaukan (62), Langdon Area (123) and Turtle Mountain Community (124).

The girls managed to get two Rugby runners in the top 10, with Tristin Lunde taking second (17:56) and Ellie Duchscherer taking tenth (18:53). As a team, the girls took second (58), and Parshall took first.

Both teams compete today in Grand Forks, and their next action is Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. in Valley City.

“I am happy with the progress our kids have made so far,” Cross County Coach Bill Jansen said in an email to the Tribune. “This Saturday’s state site preview meet in Grand Forks will give us a better idea [of] how we stack up with the rest of the state at this time.”
