Baseball Team Suffers Setback

Rugby’s Babe Ruth baseball team suffered a setback this past week with standout Nate Haman breaking his thumb in football camp. Nate will be out for the remainder of the season. Rugby, being short of players, was forced to cancel the Devils Lake game.

Things didn’t get any better with Rugby suffering their first loss of the season, falling 10-4 to Bottineau. It was a tough game for Isaiah Johnson who only pitched two innings giving up 7 runs, 6 walks with 3 strikeouts on two hits. Shayden Luna came on in relief and pitched 4 innings, had 3 walks, 7 strikeouts and gave up 3 runs on 1 hit. Luna kept his hot bat alive going 3-4, and scored twice. Nate Haman, broken thumb and all, was 2-3, scoring all while playing with his injury. Kelby Gingerich was 1-3 with 1 RBI. Rugby had its chances stranding multiple runners over the span of the game.

They were able to bounce back against the team from Cando with a hard-fought 3-2 victory. It was a well-played game by both teams. Rugby almost let the game escape them with some mental lapses on the bases as well as stranding numerous runners on base. Rugby had a total of 11 walks. Landen Foster pitched a very good game. He pitched 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks with 7 strikeouts. Seth Jaeger was 0-1 but milked 3 walks. Landen Foster went 1-4. Isaiah Johnson went 1-4 with 2 RBI’s. Dillon Marco went 2-3 with 1 RBI. Mayson McCabe went 0-2, but had 2 walks. Kyler Odden went 0-3 with 1 walk. Kyler Gingerich went 1-2 and walked twice. Kelby Gingerich went 0-3 with a walk. Tim Mueller went 1-2 and walked twice.
