Blessum Takes Fifth, Girls Golf Sixth at State

Rugby High School golfer Elizabeth Blessum ended her senior year as one of the top five Class B golfers in the state.

Blessum took fifth place overall at the state meet last week in Jamestown, just three strokes behind Oak Grove rising sophomore Lauren Cain (170) and four strokes ahead of both Bowman rising senior Kaitlyn Hill and Hazen rising junior Bethany Leier, who tied for sixth.

Blessum shot 90 on the first day, tying for eighth with Shania Gross of Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter.

On day two, Blessum shot an 83, tying for fifth with Jada Mattson of Heart River. Also on day two Rugby’s Darby Deckert tied for 13th with Leier, NewTown/Parshall rising senior Sierra Rensch, Rachel Nantt of South Border, Kindred rising senior Madeline Braaten, North Sargent rising senior Hanna Lemne and Oak Grove rising junior Amber Muir, who all shot 92.

As a team, Rugby took sixth at state overall, shooting 396 for a seventh place finish on day one and 374 for a first place finish on day two.

Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter took first at state, shooting 758 over two days. Hankinson-Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah-Lidgerwood rising junior Kaitlyn Hubrig took first individually, shooting 164 in two days.
