GOLF: Girls Win at Home

Their score may have been over 400, but the Rugby girls golf team pulled away from the competition at a meet Monday on their home turf.

Rugby took first place with a combined score of 414. Garrison was the next closest team with 435.

Senior Elizabeth Blessum led the way in scoring for both Rugby and the meet as a whole, shooting a 91. Dunseith senior Madison Nadeau and Garrison-Max senior Emily Giffey rounded out the top three, both shooting 101 apiece.

For Rugby, the next closest golfers were junior Breanna Deaver, who led the JV team by shooting a 105, and senior Paige Johnson (Leeds), 107.

The girls played a team qualifier round in Rugby on Friday, and their next action is in Dunseith on Monday (May 18.)

BOYS TAKE THIRD

The boys golf team took third in two recent meets.

The boys shot 370 at a meet Monday at the Souris Valley Golf Course in Minot. Leading in scoring for Rugby were seniors Brady Fossum and Nathan Jacobson, who both shot 90 in 18 holes. The next closest on the team were senior Noah Kraft (93) and junior Levi Pollman (97).

The boys shot 354 at a meet late last week in Dunseith. Kraft led in scoring for Rugby, shooting an 86, and Jacobson was one stroke behind.

Northern Lights junior Dalton Poitra was the top golfer at both meets, shooting a 72 in Minot and 71 in Dunseith.

Northern Lights and Bottineau took first and second place, respectively at both meets, shooting a 327 and 362 in Minot and 302 and 335 in Dunseith.

The boys went on to play a team qualifier meet in Rolla on Friday.
