BOYS TAKE FIFTH IN QUALIFIER
The Rugby High School boys golf team managed to shoot under 400 in two different meets.
But it wasn’t enough, as Northern Lights (Rolette-Wolford-Rolla) led the pack by shooting 345 at an individual qualifier meet Tuesday in Bottineau and 363 late last week at an invitational in Rolla. Junior Dalton Poitra and Senior Casey Julson were the top two golfers in both meets, shooting 81 and 84, respectively, in Bottineau and 79 and 84, respectively, in Bottineau.
Led by senior Brady Fossum, Rugby took fifth in Bottineau, shooting a 382, just two strokes more than fourth place Harvey-Wells County. Fossum shot a 91, while the next closest for Rugby, senior Nathan Jacobson, shot a 95.
The boys fared better in Rolla, taking third place with 376. Fossum and Jacobson led for Rugby, shooting 87 and 93, respectively. Fossum also took home a third place finish, shooting one stroke better than Harvey junior Spencer Marchand.
The boys golfed Friday in Dunseith, and their next two games are an individual qualifier on Monday, May 11, and a team qualifier on Friday, May 15. Both meets will take place at the Souris Valley Golf Course in Minot.
