Over the past six weeks, ten Rugby sixth grade girls have taken part in the YMCA basketball league in Minot. They played against six other teams from the region, and according to the coaches they showed huge improvements from start to finish. When we asked Coach Bonnie Sullivan what made the difference she said, “Along with help in practices from Larry Treleaven and Kelly Sullivan, we really worked on the fundamentals with the girls and on developing new skills they’ll need to be successful moving forward.” She continued on by saying “I see so much potential in these girls and helped them get to the next level skill-wise and mentally. Some have really embraced the challenge and opportunity to improve. Now seeing them starting to implement new things in games that we’ve worked on in practices is a lot of fun and very rewarding.”

When asked to judge the team’s performance Coach Sullivan shared ” Our very first game we played a very polished, good team that had obviously been practicing and playing together for a few years, and the girls really struggled with them. I was so glad we got the opportunity to play that same team again at the end and beat them. I knew we could with how much the girls had improved, and I’m glad they got that experience.” She went on to say “I’m very proud of these girls, they’ve been an outstanding group to work with!”
