Boys, Girls Track Teams Shake off Cobwebs

Rugby’s Tristin Lunde (No. 5) competes in the mile run, in which she took sixth place at the Class B NDSU Indoor Track & Field meet last week in Fargo.

The Rugby Panther Boys and Girls Track & Field teams competed last week at the Class B Indoor Track Meet, which was held on the campus of North Dakota State University.


The girls team took third place overall with a score of 54, edged out by Langdon Area with 55 (second place) and Carrington with 65 (first).

The girls relay teams scored in the top five at the competition. The 4×200 meter relay team, made up of sophomore Karin Selland, senior and future Jamestown Jimmies runner Emily Stier and her sisters, Sara (freshman) and Anni (eighth-grader), took second place with a combined time of 1:54.43. At the end of last year’s track season, the 4×200 team – which at the time was made up of the Stier girls and Katelyn Jones, a Towner freshman – were regional champions with a time of 1:50.47

The 4×400 meter relay team – Selland, Sara and Anni Stier and seventh-grader Maria Blessum – took third with a combined time of 4.30.71.

The 4×800 meter relay team took top draw with a combined time of 11:19.30. The team is made up of senior and future Jimmies runner Allison Foster, freshman Tristin Lunde and seventh graders Kelly Swanson and Taylor Nelson.

Lunde also took sixth in the mile run, with a time of 5:55.88, while Foster also took sixth in the two-mile run, with a 12:28.68 time.

Emily Stier took seventh in the 60 meter dash with a 8.52 preliminary and 8.53 final time; fifth in the 200 meter dash with a 28.63 time; and competed in the Long Jump, scoring 14’6.5″. Her sister Anni took fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.93.

Junior Lauren Kraft took seventh in the triple jump, with 31’3″, while Blessum took fifth in pole vault with 7’6″.

Kari Fritel took fourth in shot put, throwing 36’11”.


The Panther Boys Track & Field team took 11th with a score of 20.33.

The 4×800 meter relay team – made up of John Butler, seventh grader Dawson Schepp and sophomores John Mueller and Jacob Blessum – took fifth with a combined time of 10:51.74.

Schepp also took tenth in the boys two-mile run with a time of 13:05.07.

Junior Victor Gronvold took home second place in pole vault with 12’6″. Fellow Panthers Kaden Jaeger (freshman) and Ethan Clements took seventh and eighth, respectively, with 9′ and 8′.

Gronvold also took fourth in preliminaries for the 60 meter hurdles, with a time of 9.42, but false started in the finals.

Junior Ryan Michels took third in the long jump, with 18’7″. He also took seventh in the high jump, with 5’6″.

Sophomore Cade Heilman took ninth in the triple jump with 34’7″ He also competed in the high jump, taking 11th with 5’2″.

Both teams competed Thursday afternoon in Minot. This season the teams will have four meets in which they will compete on their home turf, one of them being the regional competition on May 16.
