Braves 6th seed in region

The Bottineau-Rugby hockey team concluded the regular season last week with a pair of losses ahead of this week’s West Region tournament in Bismarck.

The Braves fell 7-1 to Minot on Feb. 12 and 5-1 to Bismarck Century on Feb. 13. The Braves entered the postseason with a 9-11 overall record and 6-9 region mark.

The Magicians (13-7-1, 11-2-1) blasted 52 shots on goal and limited B-R to just 18. Rugby junior goaltender Ethan Clements made 45 saves. B-R junior Austyn Lorenz scored the team’s lone goal off an assist from senior Luke Amsbaugh.

The Patriots (18-3, 12-2) had 42 shots on goal to 22 for the Braves. Senior Noah Grant scored in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Lorenz and Amsbaugh had the assists. Clements made 37 saves.

Bismarck High (17-4, 11-2) took the top seed into this week’s tournament followed by Century and Minot. The Braves drew Minot in the first round Thursday.

Amsbaugh leads the team in goals and assists with 35 and 24, respectively. Grant has 25 goals and 19 assists. Lorenz, Braden Pewe and Casey Tooke round out the top-5 in points with 21, 10 and 10.
