The Bottineau-Rugby Braves picked up a pair of wins last week, including a 6-5 win over Williston on Jan. 16 at Al Wentz Arena in Rugby.

The Braves (6-6 overall, 3-5 West Region) skated in pink uniforms for a Pink Out night to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.

B-R took a 4-2 lead into the second period and held off the Coyotes, who stormed back with three goals in the third period.

Noah Grant scored a hat trick in the win to lead all scorers. RHS junior Ethan Clements had 27 saves in the win.

“For the most part it was a good week,” B-R coach David Hoff said in a press release. “I thought we did a few things better than we had (the previous) week. We just have to keep improving in those areas. The biggest area is defending hard and making it tough for opponents to play against us.”

On Jan. 13, B-R beat Boissevain 5-2. Senior forward Luke Amsbaugh had a hat trick by the second period and Grant and Casey Tooke added goals. Clements had 10 saves.

The winning came to an abrupt end with a 7-1 thrashing by Bismarck High on Jan. 17. Grant opened the scoring, but the conference-leading Demons (11-3, 7-1) found the net twice in the first period and four times in the second to put the game out of reach.

“We tend to play in spurts and that really makes it tough on ourselves,” Hoff said. “We either let teams back in a game or make it hard to stay close.”

The Braves are on the road this weekend. They played at Hazen-Beulah on Friday and are at Dickinson this evening.
