Braves struggle on road

By Staff | Jan 16, 2015

The Bottineau-Rugby hockey team dropped a pair of West Region road games last week, falling 9-3 to Jamestown and 8-2 to Mandan.

“It was a tough weekend for us,” B-R coach David Hoff said in a press release. “We just don’t make it tough to play against us right now. We have to defend harder than we are right

now.”

Mandan peppered B-R junior goaltender Ethan Clements with 37 shots and he faced 33 the night before from the Blue Jays.

Mandan had four goals in the second period and added three in the third. B-R senior Luke Amsbaugh scored a pair of goals in that game and junior Noah Grant scored twice against Jamestown. Austyn Lorenz also found the net against the Blue Jays.

“I thought we did some things as a team that got better as the weekend went on, but we need to do them consistently,” Hoff said.

The Braves (4-5 overall, 2-4 region) hosted Williston on Friday in Rugby and welcome Bismarck High to Bottineau for a 5 p.m. start today.

“We have to get up on guys and defend hard in small areas,” Hoff said. “Right now we just are giving up too much space and teams are making us pay for it.”
