Braves pick up two wins
The Bottineau-Rugby Braves picked up a pair of wins in Wadena, Minn., on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
The Braves skated to a 7-4 win over Breckenridge-Wahpeton on the first day with five goal scorers. Senior Luke Amsbaugh and sophomore Karsen Ceglowski scored two goals to lead the team, which scored three times in the second period and four times in the third period.
“I thought we lacked energy for most of the game,” B-R coach David Hoff said in a press release. “We seemed a little flat and had trouble getting consistent shifts from most everyone. We did keep battling and found a way to get a win with a pretty good third period.”
The hot-shooting Braves continued their strong offense the following day with a 7-5 win over Redwood Valley. B-R gave up four goals in the second period and entered the final frame trailing 4-2. Amsbaugh and classmate Noah Grant each completed their hat tricks with two third period goals each.
“We had a little more energy to start the game, but didn’t generate any offense other than two goals by Luke and Noah in one shift,” Hoff said. “The second period was a long one for us. We had some power play time but only managed to give up a short-handed goal. It seemed like the harder we tried in that period the worse it got. Again, we got some energy in the last 10 minutes of the game and went from trailing 5-2 to winning 7-5.”
Monday’s game against Deloraine will be rescheduled. The Braves played at Jamestown on Friday and play at Mandan this evening.
