The Rugby High School volleyball team fell in straight sets to visiting North Star in the season opener Tuesday.
The Bearcats, loaded with height, attacked the Panthers all night en route to a 3-0 win by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-11.
“We knew that was going to be a tough battle for us, but our girls played really well considering they hit over our blocks every chance they had,” RHS?coach Jessica Fritz said. “We did not give up and that is kind of important when you’re playing a team that’s constantly drilling the ball at you.?They played through and never showed signs of defeat and that’s big.”
NS senior Sarah Hagler had a match-high 17 kills and 6-foot-4 sophomore teammate Macey Kvilvang added 13 kills and match-high five blocks. RHS senior Darby Deckert led the Panthers with eight digs and five kills. RHS is at the Bottineau Invite today.
