Future Panthers excel

By Staff | Jun 27, 2014

Rugby’s Mikaylee Livedalen participates in the long jump of the girls 9-10 division at the State Hershey Track meet June 21 in West Fargo.

Rugby’s Madison Uhlenkamp and Tristin Lunde took first place in the softball throw and 800-meter run, respectively, at the State Hershey Track meet on June 21 in West Fargo.

Rugby and Towner combined to bring 45 participants to the meet. Uhlenkamp and Lunde will be considered to represent the state at the National Hershey Track meet in August at Hershey, Penn.

Uhlenkamp took first in the 13-14 girls softball throw with a heave of 176 feet, 5 inches. Lunde won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 35.9 seconds.

North Dakota is guaranteed at least five participants in the national meet. State winners’ marks will be compared to winners in five other states and three Canadian provinces. Selected athletes will be notified in July if they receive an all-expenses paid trip to Hershey.

Hershey has sponsored the program for 37 years, but it was announced in West Fargo that the sponsorship will end this year. State organizers are looking to set up district meets held by local parks and recreation departments with hopes of finding funding for a state meet.
