Wrestling team continues to battle

The Rugby High School wrestling team fell 36-23 in a Dec. 19 dual at Velva, which saw four double forfeits. The Panthers won four of the five contested matchups as the Aggies racked up points on five forfeits.

Eighth-grader Joel Berg pinned Hunter Miller at 5 minutes, 32 seconds of a 106-pound match. Classmate Kaden Jaeger picked up the Panthers’ second win of the match with a pin of Levi Massire at 3:52 in the 126-pound division.

RHS junior Reid Mundahl dominated Brady Irmen for a 16-1 win by technical fall at 152. Sophomore Spencer Koehmstedt wrestled up a couple division to pin Kutter Blumhagen at 1:45 in the 195-pound match.

The Panthers took just three wrestlers to Linton the following day for a two-day tournament. Seventh-grader Riley Zachmeier took seventh at 106 pounds and Jaeger was fifth at 126. Mundahl also placed in the 145-pound division.

RHS will compete at the Central Cass tournament on Jan. 3-4.
