Three Titans land on all-state team
The TGU football team landed three players on the 9-man all-state team following a season that landed the Titans in the state semifinals.
Junior lineman Luke Bacon was voted to the first-team offense and sophomore Eli Luna was named to the first-team defense.
Senior Ridge Bachmeier was named to the second team.
Bacon was a force on both sides of the line for the Titans, who finished the season 11-1.
“Luke had an outstanding season on both the offensive and defensive lines,” head coach Scott Thorson said. “He led the team in tackles and was a real force against opponents’ rushing attacks. He spent the majority of the season battling against double teams. Offensively he was a real force and developed into one of the premier linemen in the state.”
Luna not only quarterbacked the Titans, but was a force on special teams and defense.
“Eli also had a great season,” Thorson said. “Most people recognize him for the damage he does offensively each game, but on the defensive side of the ball is where he was a real factor. He was often assigned to the opponents’ best receiver and did a real nice job of cleaning up what could be big opponent plays in the secondary.”
Bachmeier was a workhorse in the backfield for TGU, which reached the state semifinal for the second time in four seasons.
“Ridge had a real solid senior season,” Thorson said. “He has done hours of off-season work, and also made a strong recovery from a knee injury earlier in his career. He was a player that did what ever he could to become a better football player. He was one of our biggest running threats, and a player that opponents definitely had to account for.
