Heidlebaugh to Hamilton

By Staff | Oct 14, 2012

The Turtle Mountain-Belcourt football team must have thought it was hearing a broken record emanating through the P.A. system during its Sept. 28 football game against Rugby.

“Heidlebaugh to Hamilton touchdown”

“Heidlebaugh to Hamilton touchdown…”

The combination of quarterback Brad Heidlebaugh and receiver Chris Hamilton combined for four touchdowns as the Panthers routed the Braves 37-0.

Hamilton caught five passes for 126 yards in total, reeling in half of Heidlebaugh’s 10 completions on the game.

Heidlebaugh finished 10 of 13 for 208 yards.

“Brad and Chris just seemed to have something going that night,” Rugby head coach Scott Grochow said. “We have a very good receiving core and the defense can’t concentrate on one guy. Friday night, it was Chris’s turn.”

While Rugby’s passing tandem stole the show with the rash of touchdowns, the Panthers showed good balance on offense.

Rugby rushed for 146 yards, with Kyle Halvorson picking up 54 yards on 14 carries. Mackenzie Koenig and Tanner Bernhardt each carried the ball 10 times, picking up an identical 43 yards with Koenig finding the end zone in the second quarter on a 1-yard run.

Kris Leier led the Panthers defense with seven total tackles, six unassisted and Josh Michaels registered an interception.

“The defense as a whole played very well,” Grochow said. “Each guy knew their assignment and did a good job of carring it out.”

On special teams, Devon Berg had a blocked kick.
