Lady Panthers volleyball team comes to play
The Lady Panthers played without one of their leaders on Sept. 4, and everyone stepped up to help fill the gap. Senior Aubrey Hovland was out with an ankle injury.
Rugby started strong, winning the first two games, 26-24.
“The girls played very well, ” said Rugby Coach Jessica Fritz. “Our serving was wonderful.”
St. John rallied during the third game and kept that rally through the fourth game, winning those two 25-12 and 25-15.
The deciding factor was two points as St. John won the last game, 17-15 for the overall win.
Freshman Taylor Wangerin made 11 kills for the Rugby team. Laura Fritel contributed 6 kills.
“Allison Volk did an outstanding job,” said Fritz. “She had 7 aces and 18 assists.”
Elizabeth Blessum rounded out the top players from Rugby with 6 aces and 7 digs.
“Even though we lost the game, the girls showed they know how to play,” said Fritz.
St. John also came to play. They did an outstanding job with two-digit figures for kills, and Sydney St. Germaine’s contribution of assists
St. Germaine had 43 assists to help her team. Savannah Bruce contributed 23 kills, along with Katelyn Lawler with 19. Lawler also made 6 aces and 16 digs for well-rounded play. Cheyenne Defender made 7 aces for her team. Desi Poitra contributed with 14 digs.
