Rugby girls golf teams take 2nd, 6th
Rugby girls golfers were split into two teams last week with half the team playing in the Bottineau Invitational on May 1 and the other half playing in the Central McLean Invitational in Underwood on May 2.
Maddie Cameron shot a 122 followed by ReeAnn Christianson with a 123, Emily Steen with 125 and Marissa Rude with 152. The girls gained valuable experience in this meet.
“I used a split squad this week (and I will next week, too) simply so the girls don’t miss so much school,” said Coach Leah Johnson. “We did well on Tuesday considering that one girl had never golfed in a meet before, and another had only golfed in one.”
The medalist of the Bottineau meet was Brittny Reimer, Garrison who shot a 94. She was also the medalist in the Central McLean meet where she improved her game shooting a 91.
The Rugby girls were sixth with a total of 522. Bottineau won first place (416) and Garrison earned second place with a 444. Central McLean was third with 448.
In the second meet, Elizabeth Blessum led the way with a score of 100 for the 18 holes. She earned fourth place overall. Rachel Mack tied for sixth place overall with a 105. Helen Johnson and Darby Deckert each earned a score of 109 and Hannah Voeller followed with a 129.
“We played well but had a few problems,” said Johnson. “I was proud of the girls for keeping the team in mind and finishing second.”
The Rugby team took second place with a team total of 423 behind Garrison with a total of 414. Central McLean came in third with 439.
The Rugby girls are scheduled to play on Tuesday, May 8 in Westhope.
“We are looking forward to another qualifier next week in Velva, and another opportunity to show what we can do.
