Rugby takes second

By Staff | Apr 23, 2012

The Rugby Girls Golf Invitational on April 12 was suspended because of the high winds and cold weather. Because of the shortened meet, the players’ scores were based on the first nine holes only.

The Rugby girls as a team earned second place in the tournament. Garrison was the top team with 215 points. Rugby had 227 points, Velva came in with 235 points, Bottineau with 242 points and in fifth place was Drake-Anamoose with 259 points.

The medalist was Britney Reimer, Garrison, who shot a 49. Another Garrison player, Caitlyn Wilcox shot a 50. Taren Braunberger with Northern Lights shot a 52. Rachel Mack, Rugby, came through with a 53 and a fourth place finish in the individual scores.

“I was very pleased with Rachel Mack,” said Rugby Coach Leah Johnson. “She’s got a nice groove.”

She went on to say that she has a core of five varsity returners who shoot in the same range and have similar styles. The others are working hard to improve their games, as well.

In addition to Mack, Darby Deckert shot a 57, Elizabeth Blessum 57, Helen Johnson 60, Emily Steen 61, Hannah Steagull 61, Maddie Cameron 64, Hannah Voeller 67 and ReeAnn Christianson 69.

The next meet was set for Friday, April 20 in Garrison. If the weather cooperated, read about this meet in next week’s paper.
