Rugby XC runners take two 3rds and one 4th place

Although Williston took first place and Taryn Ceglowski, Williston was the individual winner with 15:48, the Rugby Lady Panthers took up the challenge against the bigger schools.

The girls, boys and junior high boys participated in the Minot Velva Mouse River Local on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the Star City Golf Course in Velva.

Senior Sydney Kraft took seventh place with a time of 16:36 and the Rugby girls came in third after second place Minot. Lauren Christenson finished out the top ten with a time of 16:44. Others among the 81 runners who ran 4000 meters at the meet were: Hannah Christenson, Bailey Nelson, Allison Foster, Shanaya Fred, McKenzie Johnson, Camille Klein, Paxton Klein, and Tashal Trottier.

In the boys 5000 Meters race, 77 runners competed with two Rugby Panthers in the top ten. Erik Wangler took fifth place with 17:43 and Kyle Volk took 8th place with 17:52. Other Rugby athletes participating were Kyle Halvorson, Tanner Bernhardt, Andrew Hershey, and Taylor DeMers. The boys team took third place, after Minot in first and Williston in second. The boys individual winner was Ken Wells, Parshall with 16:14.

In the boys junior high 3000-meter race a total of 31 runners competed. Rugby’s Noah Kraft came in at 17th place and 12:28. Tyler Schmaltz, John Mueller, and Preston Tryba helped bring home the fourth place finish for Rugby. Minot took first place, Williston came in second and New Town finished third ahead of Rugby. The inidvidual winner of the junior high meet was Lief Everson, Williston at 11:03

Rugby varsity was scheduled to attend the Grafton Invitational on Thursday, September 8. Then the teams have a break from competition until their next meet on Saturday, September 24, the Four Winds Invitational. The time will be spent working to try to shave time from their individual scores.
