Ninth graders compete in Great State Championship

Several area youth captured the Consolation Championship at the Great State Basketball Championship tournament in Minneapolis June 26.

The top two freshman teams from North Dakota for boys and girls competed June 26 at the Target Center. The boys teams were from Rugby and West Fargo-Sheyenne, andthe girls teams were from Ellendale and Devils Lake.

Rugby lost the opener to Chatfield, Minn., 28-30. They bounced back with a 41-38 victory over Barnesville, Minn. The ConsolationChampionship was a rematch of the North Dakota State Pacesetter Tournament as Rugby took on West Fargo-Sheyenne.Rugby came out strong and defeated West Fargo 52-39 to take the consolation title.

Members of the Rugby team are Dakota Walden, Luke Bacon, Ethan Miller, Chris Hamilton, Hunter Braaten and Jaedon Haman.
