Rugby girls achieve 4th in Regionals

By Staff | Mar 17, 2011

The Rugby Girls Basketball Team took fourth place in Region 6 competition on Thursday, March 10 in Minot.

The Lady Panthers reached a goal that they had set for themselves at the beginning of the season. That was to win their first game in the Region 6 Tournament. That achievement hasn’t been accomplished by a Rugby Girls Team for ten years.

Senior, Crystal Hovland and junior, Aubrey Hovland each made the Region 6 All Region Team.

Of course the girls also wanted to go to state but that wasn’t to be this year.

They fell short in their next two games at the regionals and ended up with a fourth place finish.

On Thursday, March 10, The Lady Panthers played hard against Bshop Ryan but were beaten in a fairly matched game, 55-52.

“Our girls played well,” said Coach Jen Brossart. “They executed the offense about the best they could in that situation.”

“It was nice to see them put it all together and play relaxed,” added Brossart.

Crystal Hovland made a game high 29 points.

“It’s a good way for a senior to go out.” said Brossart.

Hovland is the one senior basketball player who plans to compete on the college level and hopes to coach one day.

“This has been a special group of kids (seniors),” said Brossart. “I have had them all four years.”

She added that with the younger players coming up, the future of Panthers Girls Basketball is good.

“I would like to thank our fans,” said Brossart.
